Description
Why an air bike cannot be cheated
A fan bike’s resistance is the air it is pushing, and air resistance rises with the square of speed. Pedal twice as fast and you meet four times the resistance. There is no setting to hide behind and no level to turn down, which is exactly why coaches use them for conditioning tests. Twenty seconds on an air bike is unpleasant in a way twenty seconds on a spin bike is not.
The noise, stated plainly
This is a loud machine. At full effort it is around 78 dB — comparable to a vacuum cleaner. It is a garage or basement tool. If you are in an apartment or you train while others sleep, buy the R500 rower instead and we will both be happier.
Belt versus chain
Chain drives are cheaper and need periodic tensioning and oiling; a belt drive is quieter, needs nothing, and does not fling lubricant onto your floor. On a machine you intend to keep for a decade in a room you also live near, the belt is worth the difference.
